Dr. Zaky's Research Published in the Journal Minerva Anestesiologica
February 10, 2017 – Sandusky, Ohio -- The research article titled “Real-Time Ultrasound-Guided Spinal Anesthesia in Patients with Predicted Difficult Anatomy” by Sherif Zaky, MD, MSc, PhD, pain management doctor with Firelands Physician Group, is being published in the February issue of Minerva Anesthesiologica.
There are limited reports of lumbar neuraxial blocks using real-time ultrasound in patients with predicted difficulties. Dr. Zaky’s article discusses a trial that compared the number of attempts to perform spinal anesthesia using real time ultrasound guidance versus landmark technique in patients meeting predefined criteria for difficult spinal anesthesia.
Dr. Zaky’s trial suggests that real-time ultrasound-guidance for spinal anesthesia in challenging patients in comparison to the standard technique was completed with lower needle insertion attempts, and higher patient satisfaction scores.
Minerva Anesthesiologica is a journal on anesthesiology, resuscitation, analgesia and intensive care. It is the official journal of the Italian Society of Anesthesiology, Analgesia, Resuscitation and Intensive Care, and is published monthly.
